MediaCity:UK, Manchester

The BBC will occupy stylish new facilities at the heart of Manchester's Media City development in Salford Quays at the start of April. Peel Developments have invested heavily in a high speed construction programme to deliver the UK's first purpose made media hub for broadcast and media organisations to be centrally located as part of Britain's growing media revolution.

The BBC are moving five of its departments; BBC Children's, BBC Children's Learning, BBC Sport, BBC Radio Five Live, and parts of BBC Future Media and Technology (including a small number from BBC R&D), as well as the BBC Breakfast programme, involving about 2,300 staff in total. The move, expected to be completed by 2011, marks a major decentralisation of the corporation's operations, and will represent the BBC's largest presence outside of London. The arrival of the BBC is expected to attract other media, broadcasting, and filmmaking companies to the area. It is claimed that MediaCityUK will create up to 10,000 jobs and add £1bn to the regional economy over 5 years with the BBC at the hub.

Phase 1 will deliver 700,000 ft2 of state of the art offices, studios and edit suits in a superbly designed, luxurious yet functional series of three buildings housing shows such as 'Match of The Day', 'Breakfast TV', 'Radio 5 Live' and the entire BBC Sport hub as well as all of its major national programmes.
