Baird & Anchor Hospitals, Aberdeen – Cableflow Installation gets underway

Installation of bespoke Cableflow medical supply units (bedheads) has commenced on the new Baird Family Hospital and the ANCHOR Centre Projects at the Foresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen.

This exciting project, valued at more than £260m, will result in two new buildings being opened on the site to support and enhance the provision of clinical care locally.

The projects being delivered for NHS Grampian by Graham Construction in collaboration with Building Services contractor NG Bailey will also include state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities and will offer person-centred environment of care.

Following a public consultation exercise in 2015, it was decided that the new facilities would be called The Baird Family Hospital in recognition of the contribution made to women’s health by the Baird family, in the North East and beyond; and The ANCHOR Centre in line with the ‘ANCHOR’ brand (Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy) which has been in use for over 20 years.

The Baird Family Hospital will include all of the services currently provided at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital (AMH) as well as other clinical services which are located on the Foresterhill site, across more than 1,000 rooms including:

  • Maternity Services including a Community Maternity Unit
  • Gynaecology Services
  • Breast Services
  • Neonatology Services
  • Aberdeen Centre for Reproductive Medicine
  • Radiology Services
  • Operating Theatres
  • Research and Teaching Facilities
  • Non-Clinical Support Services

Cableflow bedhead containment systems are being deployed site-wide for single occupancy in-patient accommodation (bedrooms) and all acute clinical spaces including birthing suites throughout the Baird Family Hospital. More than 370 individual cableflow medical supply unit modules will be installed across the two schemes.

The ANCHOR Centre will also benefit from 32 bespoke Cableflow ATOLL ‘island’ day case chemotherapy stations containing all patient care services for nurse call, power, data, medical gases & vacuum. The design incorporates durable Corian worksurfaces for resilience and ease of cleaning and infection control and foster a more engaging and patient-centric approach to day treatment spaces.
